Does each Contrada have its own festival?
Each Contrada has its own patron
saint and celebrations take place on the feast day dedicated to the saint. The celebration
in each Contrada is called Festa Titolare, during which may be organized fairs
and other festivities.
What's the Masgalano and who wins it?
It is a sculpture (often a
silver plate) which is assigned after the Palio of August to the Contrada which, in both
Palios, has the best appearance in the Campo for the historical procession, either for the
job of ensigns and drummers and for the gait and the right clothing by the rest of the comparsa,
from the pages to the horse. Everything is estimated. The word Masgalano comes from the
spanish Mas Galan, that's the most elegant.
